Am going to have another go at doing (and completing) a MOOC. This one's only four weeks in length... surely I should be able to do it... right?!

A few early thoughts on Google+ Hangouts On Air for use in education... does the public streaming to YouTube present itself as an issue or a benefit? Depends on the purpose of the learning activity...

New blog post - I saw an article about an innovative primary school, stuffed full of technology and engaged pupils - which was fantastic. But, I can't shake the feeling of disquiet that we're not preparing them for the future, but we're compensating for our own inadequacies now. We don't get the tech so we foist it on them at an ever earlier age in the hopes that it's enough.

We're still focusing on the thing and not the thinking

Circles took me ages to get my head around... I think I finally have, so I've written it down while it's fresh in my head!
How Google+ circles work

1. Circles are a way for you to organise people you're interested in and to restrict the audience for your posts
2. Putting someone in a circle allows you to follow their public posts
3. It does not mean that if you share something with the circle you've put them in, it'll appear in their stream
4. They can see what it is you shared if they happen to visit your profile
5. For it to appear in their stream, they'd have to have you in a circle too
6. A circle is not like a lasso that you throw around someone else to yank them into a circled conversation

Worth a read - the idea that education should be tailored to particular learning styles rather than helping the learner to grow seems to come from that 'fixed quantity' version of education... where your personal attributes are those you're stuck with. You're as intelligent as you're going to be. As creative as you're going to be. And the way you learn is just the way you learn. A growth mindset would approach this very differently...
