Ok this has to be one of the dumbest Google dictum yet. It is hypocritical to say on the one hand "build sites for users" and in the next breathe say don't use URL fragments which is another name for a targeted link. That takes all the functionality out of FAQs, says don't give users a way to get back to the top of the page which has been a characteristic of the most useable/user friendly sites for ALL of the 20+ years I been building websites. Please stop this BS of telling us to build sites for users and then commence to tell us that it should be fast, then Google say add https which negated the page speed gains and more! IMO, a bunch of hypocrites leading the SEO's around by the nose. Stop and think folks THEY ALWAYS HAVE AN AGENDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found this interesting. However, with Penguin now *baked in* I don't know that these are rollbacks or updates but this just may be the "the new normal" for index refreshes and crawling. Google has shown that they prefer to have updates like the 3 Ps running realtime.

Google IME, has not done many rollbacks of updates. It also could be that they are flipping between Mobile first and desktop in preparation for a New Year release of Mobile first. I do not see Google screwing around with major updates during the Christmas season after what happened as a result of the Florida update. Could I see it happening in late December, definitely, but not before.

After a brief hiatus I'll be back in the Saddle again with the Bogus Hangout!!
Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout is a weekly chat and discussion event. The main crew are #SEO and #marketing folks (of some note) but guests come from all sorts of jobs and interests and our discussions may meander onto all sorts of topics.

The norm for discussion shows is to carefully pick guests and topics. That's where this show is most Bogus. This is a casual chat between interesting people and whoever joins is welcomed. Serendipitous chaos is our USP.

Our habit is to simply throw out a few invitations to guests without much (if any) ado, often without asking them in advance, and simply seeing who is free to turn up.

Our uninvited invitations this week go out to +Christine Churchill, +Debra Mastaler, +Kim Krause Berg, and +Sophie Iredale.

Regular crew:
+Bill Slawski-
+Ammon Johns-
+Kristin Drysdale-
+Terry Van Horne-
+Jennifer Slegg-

The other day on +Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout I spoke briefly about the recent Possum Local update. I was skeptical (when aint I?) about Google's ability to identify two businesses in a building offering the same services. I was more skeptical until I remembered a Business incubator also rents offices in the same building. Long story short we are back in the Local Paks today and the low quality aggregator that replaced us is gone. BTW the few weeks we were out of the Paks... saw little change in traffic illustrating why Google should not be driving the majority of your traffic . Personally I like to see at least 50% of traffic coming from other channels.

Hmmmm being an old fart I still use MSIE version 11.533 and all that loaded in it was the navbar at the top and the social Icons. Good on ya' that it works in Edge that is why I hardly use it....breaks too many pages. Also wondering why a company that promotes HOA's (where most views come on the recorded version on YT) doesn't have a video tutorial which is what I'd rather have because I would rather see how it's done than figure it out from pictures and text? There's also the fact that "How to" category and help videos rule YT!

+Mike Grehan interviewed on intent marketing. Very good piece about understanding what the intent of the user is and providing the correct response/content to meet the intent of the search. It is a key to conversion and getting the user early that far too many SEO's do not understand or take advantage of enough!
How cool is this? I just received a package from Google with my own "micro-moment" in it. They got the quote right, the black specs and black shirt... And even covered my grey with a little color in my hair - how kind :)

I couldn't agree more with much of what this post says about digital marketers... especially those of the 3G persuasion who kinda' believe that there was no marketing before the internet. Can you say inbound marketing. I can't because that is a NON internet channel! I was a telemarketer so I know what inbound marketing is I was doing it in the 70's!

The internet is just another of the many "marketing channels" you have to sell your goods and services down! I used to believe to sell website development and marketing a website and the internet was all I needed. That was true in '94 not in 2016. Currently I am contemplating setting up a more "traditional" location and using personal/direct marketing techniques I used before I discovered the internet to sell these services!

Never have I seen so much energy and effort put into publishing "information" anyone who has been around longer than a day knows. If you don't know why Gogle does it then you are a crappy link builder not an SEO. Not like this is new or really worth a blog post. This phenomenon is as old as Google they've always done it! If you understand page rank and authority and understand that crosslinking "quality" content is not a problem even if you own it! Just watch the dupe content

Getting set for the bos Adventursee ya ther!
Bill and Ammon (+Bill Slawski  and +Ammon Johns   ) reprise their role as the "Wyld Stallyns" of SEO, with bodacious babe +Kristin Drysdale helping wrangle comments, and stop them chasing squirrels.  (okay, a more realistic goal: prevent them chasing too many squirrels).  +Terry Van Horne joins us to release more squirrels when Kristin isn't looking. Bodacious SEM babe +Jennifer Slegg has somehow been convinced that joining the band is a good idea.

(No squirrels are harmed in the making of this program)

About Bill and Ammon's Bogus Hangout
This is not a polished, planned and scripted event.  This is a casual hangout with old friends and new, shared with all.  Somewhere around the halfway point, we'll post the link for anyone who wishes to come and join us (space permitting) allowing us to meet even more old and new friends.

The idea of pre-planning, a set topic, or even simply knowing who will be on the show this week?  All totally bogus.

Free Air-Guitars to all attendees (exact model and colour may vary with imagination)

Our general style is to issue uninvited invitations, naming folks we think might like a chat, without asking first if they are available (or willing).

Uninvited invitations this week go out to: +Saul Fleischman, +Mani Saint-Victor, +Carmen Rojas, +Grant Simmons, +Frank Watson, & +Stephanie Sims.
As always, we'll post the link to join us live once we start.

We have no idea yet who will actually turn up, and that's how we like it.
