Why the kv-220 and not the tiger II? This seems like a poor use of resources on tanks that are seeing less use than the popular tanks.

Well, if it was a failure with the gun breech there are two potential causes for the failure(I'm no expert, I'm just guessing here). First could be that the shell that was used when firing the cannon may have been improperly made with perhaps too much explosive charge and generating more force and pressure than the gun breech could handle and causing the explosion. The other possibility is that the breech failed as a result of wear and tear or wasn't properly maintained. just my guess to what happened, I could be wrong and this could all be a simple matter of the hellcat getting a bad case of RNG.
