It's not about fish sandwiches.  Lent is a time to grow in your faith and your understanding of God.  It is a time of introspection and meditation and a time to come to terms with your place in God's world.  You'll find lent explained, and some almost-daily reflections at http://aboutfirst.com/observing-lent

The house was full for Easter worship, with musicians, kids, worshipers, a couple of guys who look alike and even a lamb.

“Uncertainty…we have all lived with it at points in our lives.  This week has presented several moments when I have witnessed – and been part of! – uncertainty in our lives.  The first was the call which came in the middle of the night – a nineteen-year-old is walking into a house and collapses…10 minutes later he has died!  Makes no sense…isn’t supposed to happen…medical experts can work the miracle, can’t they?!...a life way-too-short is gone…  Three days later the funeral is happening.  World has come to a stop!!  God is asked why this is happening!!

“Second moment – my daughter calls and she has been in contact with her husband -- who is in Gabon, Africa where he is from – and his mother has fallen.  She was fine yesterday, and today she has fallen and she is beginning to shake, and she is starting to forget things.  Mom’s aren’t supposed to grow older…they aren’t supposed to get sick…parents are supposed to always be there with the answers.  And life tells us, “No, that’s not how I work!”

Uncertainty…changing plans in an instant…a world which comes to a screeching halt.  It happens more than we know, and we pause, having been “slapped upside the head” to tell us, “STOP!”  Jesus went through this many times, hearing of moments when life’s ongoing routine is changed in an instant.  The first was when his cousin and one of his best friends, John the Baptist, was killed because of a senseless stupid party and a moment of stupidity on the part of the king!  And again when one of his best friends collapses and is buried – Lazarus.  Jesus goes to mourn, talk with Lazarus’ sisters, and then takes the moment to bring a real lesson of life for all of us.  He brings Lazarus back to life, telling us Jesus has the power of life-and-death.  In this senseless world of traumatic and sudden challenges, we are given the answer to how we get past the trauma and discover the hope – Jesus will not let our lives be left lost and soon forgotten.  Easter is the promise that, through Jesus, we will always be brought back to life.  Our soul – US! – will be claimed by Jesus, not wanting us to die and be forgotten.  Good news in the middle of our struggling hurts and pains of life.  There is certainty in the midst of uncertain feelings, struggles, challenges.

Are we wanting this hope and help?  That’s our personal challenge…”
