Seems like Google may trust a link less after the link is modified. This comes from former Googler +Pedro Dias who didn't say if he knows this based off of previous work experience at Google or new tests he has run as an SEO consultant. Either way, this is interesting.
Hmm. Typing on my iPhone results in many accidental misspellings. Downgraded when I edit? Hope not +Barry Schwartz. Jul 2, 2014
Is this changing the url, changing the anchor text, changing the content on the linked page?
Does this affect nofollow links or only followed links? (for as much as nofollow links affect things) Is there a difference between them at all?
Is it on the basis that only an SEO person, preemptively making his keyword heavy anchor text a little less obvious, is the only person that might modify the link?
It's a bit of an odd, orphaned statement from +Pedro Dias Jul 2, 2014
+Antony Jackson yes, this refers to altering the link in any way. It doesn't matter what type of link it is.Jul 2, 2014
+Randy Milanovic the link would have had to of been active for a given time period, say 6 months to 1 year. Then edited. This would cause the link to lose trust.Jul 2, 2014
Makes sense +Greg SmithJul 2, 2014
