House of Muses: Hayles and Howe and Gruppe for the Museum of London – London Festival of Architecture

This incredible structure designed by GRUPPE and manufactured to a precise specification by Hayles and Howe follows the traditional dips... and bows of classical columns, yet its simplicity makes it appear amazingly fresh and modern. The plywood installation, rendered with Hayles and Howe’s plasterwork and scagliola, is based on a pillar of the Church of St Alban, built by Christopher Wren. It deliberately reflects the past in its shape and in the craftsmanship of its surfaces, while acting as a place to consider the future.
