This week some pictures from beautiful St Louis Illinois.

Soaring some 630 feet in a graceful, weighted catenary curve, the Gateway Arch at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is the tallest man-made monument in the United States. Designed by the Finnish architect, Eero Saarinen, the structure consists of a stainless steel skin covering a sandwich of two carbon-steel walls with reinforced concrete in the middle from ground level to 300 feet (91 m), with carbon steel to the peak. The arch is hollow and accommodates a capsule-like tram system that takes visitors to an observation deck at the top. Built to last 1000 years the memorial is a fitting "Gateway to the West" and tribute to the explorers and pioneers that led the expansion. Sadly Saarinen died in 1961, some 4 years before completion of the Arch in 1965.

The photograph taken at sunset is a 5-image HDR, shot at ISO100, 17mm and f/20, with an exposure range of 3.2 to 30 seconds.
