BLACK SAND SWIMMER

The guy swimming in this inlet was crazy. The surf was very aggressive and the waves were sizeable. I was impressed.

NEW ADDITIONS

I guess it’s time to finally make this news really official by posting it here on Google+. My wife and I are expecting our first child in April and we couldn’t be more excited :)

So, to show a bit of our progress here’s a photo of my wife’s growing belly that I shot this weekend. She’s just over 5 months in so there should be plenty more growth to document in the coming months.

IT’S GLOW TIME

Forgive the pun in the post title – I couldn’t help it :)

This is Quarry Lake in Canmore, AB at sunrise. Whenever I shoot mountains at sunrise or sunset, it’s always a bit of a surprise when sun gets to just the right angle to light up the mountain peaks. And then, of course, it’s a scramble to find all the compositions you want before that perfect light disappears.

BAMBOO FOREST

This was taken in Maui while on one of the coolest hikes I've ever done. The sound of the bamboo swaying in the wind is truly unique and we were rewarded with some amazing waterfalls at the end of the hike.

A great day.

The perspective of this makes me feel really small, it's like a giant forest. Love it.

KIHEI BEACH

The beach in front of the condo complex I stayed at in Maui was amazing. Great sand, just enough surf and this great outcropping of rocks at one end which made for some great photographic compositions.

MAUI - I

Last night I spent a bit of time going back through all of my images from my trip to Maui in August. For the most part, I’ve exhausted the ‘wow’ images that deserve their own post but I have a number of images remaining that will form the basis of a few collage posts similar to what I did with my New York City photos.

This frame is from one of the most relaxing places I’ve ever been. This secluded beach was a ways past the town of Hana and I could have sat and watched the aggressive surf pound the shoreline for hours.

Check out my blog for the full set of images: http://bit.ly/tsQeMa

PEYTO LAKE

#FilmFriday is back today with an image I shot of Peyto Lake in Banff National Park.

I love the faded look of this shot – it makes me feel like I’ve stepped back in time. (Shot with my Mamiya 645 on Portra 400)

TIMES SQUARE

It’s impossible to go to New York City and not come away with a few dozen shots of Times Square. It’s such an iconic location and there’s so much going on ALL THE TIME – I was amazed. So, I thought I’d try to show the somewhat chaotic atmosphere by presenting a triptych of somewhat abstract panoramas. On their own none of these shots are spectacular, but seen together I feel they really show the atmosphere of one of the worlds most recognizable places.
