I will defer to the book, "You are now less dumb" which makes a compelling argument that trusting our gut isn't always the best choice as it can be unreliable in many ways. There are valid points on both sides of the issue. Anyone read it?

Decision making: 80% of subjects in experiment of Johannsen et al were "choice blind". People tend to like their choice (but misleadingly believing it was theirs...)

That's a possible explanation - nevertheless they aren't aware of their original decision. But they refer to rather superficial all day decisions.
