In general the world's rapidly growing population and industrialization has lead to soil erosion, declining soil fertility, deforestation, desertification, water pollution, and loss of bio diversity. War, poor governance, and corruption are all adding to the environmental destruction.

Since the UNFCCC entered into force in 1995, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC have been meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change. 

The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) is taking place from 28 November to 9 December in Durban, South Africa .

The IDC is a national development finance institution set up to promote economic growth and industrial development. We are owned by the South African government under the supervision of the Economic Development ministry.

We are fully supportive of growing the green economy in South Africa and creating a sustainable future for us all. South Africa is delighted to host COP17 | CMP7 - we welcome you all to sunny Durban!
