Years ago we were performing an office move for a very large corporation located in Southeast Michigan. As our team was packing the personal office of the company’s CEO, a very prominent and accomplished businessman, our team noticed a piece of artwork hanging on his wall. It was a framed collection of business cards from some of the world’s most well-known and accomplished CEOs. There were six business cards in the collection. Each card was a normal everyday business card, with the CEO’s name, title, and contact information along with their different iconic company logo. As our movers wrapped the framed piece in bubble, one of our movers commented that he thought the collection was cool and it reminded him how he had collected baseball cards as a kid. The customer was still inside his office at the time and smiled upon hearing the comment and politely asked the movers to make sure that nothing happens to that piece. He went on to share that the collection was acquired, one by one, as he grew his business and had personal and business encounters with each of the CEO’s. He shared that had the fortune of meeting many world class business leaders throughout the growth of his business, but there was something about those particular six leaders that made him ask for their business cards and then eventually frame and hang them inside his office. The customer shared that each CEO had wildly varying leadership styles and approaches, but each had ONE thing in common: They were leaders who positively stood out in their industry and who knew how to deliver on their big and bold ideas. The customer, an accomplished business leader in his own right, humbly admired the individuals on the cards and proudly admitted that their stories brought inspiration to him throughout his business career. We are happy to report that our movers were able to safely deliver the collection to the customer’s new office. More importantly, the story inspired us to think about what great leaders have brought inspiration to our own business? Who would we include if we were picking 6 business cards of leaders who demonstrated how to deliver on their big and bold ideas? The first card in our collection was easy, Mr. Mike Ilitch, Chairman of the Board of Little Caesars.

Earlier this week, our team collectively mourned the passing of Mr. Mike Illitch, but we celebrated the legacy he has left on our community and inspiration he has provided our moving business. He came from humble beginnings and just like our founder; he was the child of Macedonian immigrants. Mr. Ilitch took the antiquated and fragmented, mom and pop pizza industry and tossed it in the air like one of his pizza pies, boldly doing things differently. His vision brought standardization, process improvements, and marketing genius to the pizza industry. Ask any mover and he will boast about the sheer genius concept of the five dollar hot-n-ready. It is a mighty, quick, and cost-effective way to feed a hungry moving crew and boost morale before unloading their moving truck that is full of heavy furniture.) He enabled the possibility of the modern day franchise business model and showed us the possibility of taking a local Michigan brand to worldwide recognition. Along the way, he employed tens of thousands and when our city had fallen on some of its toughest times, he remained true to his roots, investing here and moving Little Caesars headquarters here. He constantly showed signs of his competitiveness throughout his career, restoring pride to our local teams. He made this place Hockeytown, he earned our Stanley Cups and returned us to baseball prominence. It is never the right time to leave, but as the words stated on his memorial card summed it up, “A Life Well Lived”. He left us at a time when Detroit is rising like his pizza dough. There is immense opportunity and growth for Detroit and much of that opportunity exists because he had what it took to deliver on his big and bold ideas. Rest in peace Mr. I. Your business card will forever be kept in a frame at our office as inspiration of what can be achieved.

Congratulations to St. Patrick School, White Lake on an incredibly successful Classroom #CannedFoodDrive and making an impact on our local community. As part of #CatholicSchoolsWeek, each classroom competed in a friendly “Can War” to see which classroom could collect the greatest number of Canned Goods. The canned goods were donated to +Open Door Outreach Center Inc. food pantry to help qualified families in the area who experience an emergency that prevents them from providing basic family needs. Together, St. Patrick students and faculty collected over 8,200 canned goods and helped fill an entire 26’ Moving Truck from front to back. ProfessionalMovers.com delivered the truckload of canned goods and was happy to continue our commitment to get more involved with the +MoveForHunger effort by seeking out opportunities to play an important role in the strengthening of collection efforts of our communities’ food banks. As part of our renewed commitment, every time one of our Moving Consultants performs an in-house survey for a residential move, we will provide our customers with an avenue to make it easier for them to donate unwanted or excess food. For instance, we will provide them with a free collection box and we will deliver the donated items directly to a local food pantry after the move. The plan is simple, but can have a huge impact on our local community. #Community #ProfessionalMoversDoingGood #GiveBack

The last week has been filled with heartache, missing our friend and Executive Director for the Michigan Movers Association, Donnelly Eurich. We learned of Donnelly’s passing just a few days prior to this week’s 95th Annual Michigan Movers Convention. Donnelly or Donn as he liked to be called was an intelligent, funny, and thoughtful bridge-builder who was instrumental for the success and management of our industry association. He brought organization to our board meetings and the best in educational training to our conferences. His involvement helped bring about many positive changes for our members and our move customer’s alike, continuously strengthening our governmental relationship. So much of what he did went unnoticed, until he was gone. Life is precious and our time here is a gift, when it is our time, it is our time. Donn’s passing was tragic, but there was comfort in the timing being so close to our annual convention. Last week, moving companies from throughout the State of Michigan gathered together with our industry partners to pay respect and share many fond memories of Donn. His time with all of us will not be forgotten. During our convention, the Michigan Movers Board of Directors unanimously voted to change the name of our scholarship fund to the “Donnelly Eurich Michigan Movers Scholarship Fund”. Just how he touched all our lives, his legacy will continue to shape the lives of the next generation of students who will perhaps join the Moving Industry. Professional Movers Team considers it an honor and privilege to have spent time serving with Donn and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to the +Detroit Catholic Central High School Class of 2016. Today you throw on that white tux and join the ranks of so many proud and supportive Shamrocks that came before you. Make the most of this life and opportunity you were given. You were taught Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge – all character traits that are the foundation to making a positive impact on this world. In 20 years, you will look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way that you can’t grasp now how much possibility laid before you. Here is a throwback to 20 years ago today, it was graduation night 1996. Co-Owner Andrew Androff received his diploma with fellow Shamrock, Jeff Milligan. CC holds a special place in our heart and we support ‪#‎ShamrockNation‬. We have been fortunate to have hundreds of Shamrocks join our organization as movers while they pursued their college degrees. We have been here as they went on to become accountants, engineers, doctors, moving consultants, but most importantly we have been here to watch them become great fathers, husbands, partners, and leaders. Congratulations again and know you are always welcome at ProfessionalMovers.com. ‪#‎SonsOfCentralHonor‬ ‪#‎MaryAlmaMater‬ ‪#‎DetroitCatolicCentral‬ ‪#‎CCPride‬ ‪#‎Classof1996‬ ‪#‎Classof2016‬ ‪#‎CCShamrocks‬
