p-hacking! Happens all the time in a less overtly dishonest way I think.

Contrary to what one might expect based on today’s notions of literacy, writing did very clearly not arise from a move to record spoken language. Instead, it evolved out of primitive accounting methods, more closely related to abacuses than to storytelling.

Glial cells – a family of cells found in the human central nervous system and, until recently, considered mere “housekeepers” – now appear to be essential to the unique complexity of the human brain.

Article on getting acquainted with failure by Athene Donald. I found it to be a good reminder (given own recent 'set-backs') . This message becomes a bit more gender-neutral toward the end too.

I am always concerned when advocacy for equality devolves into this sort of very obvious identity grouping. The causal constraints that limit success in any field of human effort have almost nothing to do with gender and almost everything to do with access and exposure to rich learning experiences and tools and materials that can be played with and messed with at will and without constraint. Has nothing to do with gender. Has nothing to do with "race". Has nothing to do with age. Give kids fair and equal access to knowledge and experimentally rich environments. Kids! not boy or girl kids. Not black or white kids. Kids. In  places where kids have less access outside of school, make sure the schools are even richer to compensate. It is that simple. Atoms aren't gender biased. Atoms aren't race biased. Just make sure kids have access to them and to people who understand them.

Since the invention of the Pap smear, deaths from cervical cancer in the United States have plummeted. In India, a simpler test is being performed that may achieve similar results. The secret ingredient: common household vinegar. Learn more here: http://to.pbs.org/UjcWeT

I received excellent care and service from Greg Kuzmits Tax Service. Greg is very knowledgeable and given his expertise I was amazed at how affordable it was. I particularly want to provide a comparison between Greg's service and H&R Block. H&R Block did my 2011 taxes, charged me $142, and then I found out they made numerous mistakes on my federal and state returns (and this is more than just the same mistake applied twice). Greg amended my 2011 return (which was good because he found more mistakes), did my 2012 return, and only charged $110. I received far superior service, expertise, and support going to Greg Kuzmits Tax Service and I should have done this much earlier!
