Le Laboratoire d’Entomologie Fonctionnelle et évolutive de Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech vient de recevoir un subside de 1,3Mi€ provenant du programme #WALInnov afin de développer une nouvelle stratégie de lutte contre les insectes ravageurs de nos cultures. Baptisé #BIOFUNGI, le projet – mené en collaboration avec le Laboratoire de Mycologie de l’UCL - ambitionne de développer une méthode d’utilisation de champignons entomopathogènes en remplacement des pesticides actuels.

Thomas Toupy and Jean-Christophe Monbaliu (Center for Integrated Technology and Organic Synthesis - CiTOS, MolSys Research Unit) contributed to the development of an innovative method for the production of cyclic peptides within the frame of a collaboration with the Institut Pasteur in Lille. These cyclic peptides attract an increasingattention from the pharmaceutical industry for the development of new therapeutic agents. The results of this research have just been published in the journal Nature Communications.

A research conducted by Joseph Lombardo, PhD student at the Laboratory of Experimental Physics of Nanostructured Materials under the direction of Prof. Alejandro Silhanek, in collaboration with researchers from +kuleuven , +UAntwerpen and the University Grenoble-Alpes, has made it possible to highlight a new method for the manufacture of #nanoscopic #Josephson #junctions in a simpler, more practical and #inexpensive way and to obtain control of their properties after their creation. These results were recently published in Nanoscale. #ULiège

Two international research teams, including Denis Grodent, Jean-Claude Gérard and Bertrand Bonfond, researchers at the Laboratory for Planetary and Atmospheric Physicis (STAR Research Unit), analysed and compared images recorded by JIRAM and UVS instruments on board the JUNO probe. The results show unprecedented details on the interaction between the planet and its moons when auroras appear as well as fundamental discrepancies between the ultraviolet and he infrared aurora. These findings are the subject of two scientific publications in Science and Icarus.

Après 4 années en orbite autour de Mars, la sonde MAVEN a pu récolter de nombreuses données. Une équipe scientifique internationale -dont fait partie +Arnaud Stiepen du Laboratoire de Physique Atmosphérique et Planétaire (LPAP) de l’Unité de recherche STAR – vient d’analyser les dernières informations transmises par la sonde qui révèlent une érosion très rapide de l’atmosphère martienne. Ces résultats font l’objet d’une publication scientifique dans la revue Icarus.

Gaël Buldgen, Sébastien Salmon and Arlette Noels from the Theoretical Stellar Astrophysics and Asteroseismology Laboratory (ASTA) of the STAR Institute of the University of Liege have developed new seismic sounding techniques for the study of our #Sun. Built using the new chemical abundances of the Sun - determined by 3D simulations of its outer layers - the new solar model seriously questions our knowledge of the Sun, but will also impact several studies of stellar systems for which the previous solar model, more than 20 years old, served as a reference. The results of these researches, which have been published almost simultaneously in the journals Astronomy & Astrophysics (1) and Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (2,3), are currently the object of many discussions in the international scientific community.

Une équipe de chercheurs, dont des scientifiques du Laboratoire de Pétrologie, Géochimie et Pétrophysique – Unité de recherche GEOLOGY (Faculté des Sciences), vient de mettre le doigt sur un procédé de production d’un liquide enrichi en fer à l’origine de gisements importants. La clé se trouve dans l’immiscibilité des magmas dans les gisements de type « Kiruna ». Cette découverte vient de faire l’objet d’une publication dans +Nature Research.
