When we find a beautiful camp spot like Fishermans Rest (QLD 607) we find an excuse to stop earlier than usual, set up the fire, then relax and watch the wildlife and the view

If we are leaving on a trip or coming home and travelling on the Cunningham Hwy there is a great camp area in the little town of Yelarbon that we like to stay at. It's between Warwick and Goondiwindi so is a good distance for us for a days run. The Yelarbon Recreation Ground (QLD 711) is away from the Hwy on Wyemo St. The camp area is maintained by volunteers and the whole place is a credit to them. There are powered sites and lots of room in the middle of the oval for unpowered. The laundry is spotless, amenities always clean and a great little herb garden as well. For bird watchers there is a lagoon just across the road and the hotel has very good meals. Check it out next time you are passing

On our last trip in South Australia we passed this unique vehicle travelling along the track beside the railway between Quorn & Leigh Creek. Seemed a leisurely and interesting way to see the countryside. Has anybody seen it anywhere lately?

When we were up in Cape York on our last trip we added a few new sites to the listings. One of the camp spots we visited was Captain Billy Landing which is right on the beach on the Eastern edge of Heathlands Regional Park. It is an open grassy area , with a toilet and a picnic shelter. Access is 32 km along a narrow winding track, and I notice on the Qld parks website that the track is being upgraded in May! Suitable for 4WD off road vehicles only. You can see more info on our updates page on the website or on:

Coleambally is a small town in the NSW Riverina area and is now providing a welcome stay-over for grey nomads, caravanners and travellers. The Coly Club offers free caravan parking and camping (unpowered) in its car park, at the adjacent footy ovals and native parklands. Toilets are available during opening hours, showers at the footy oval. Pets allowed.
If you go into the Coly Club, you can have a drink and plan the next day's travel using the free WIFI.
Enjoy a meal at the restaurant to save cooking!
The town also has an IGA supermarket, butcher, PO and service station.
