...The mostly improvised dialogue and documentary-like camera work make this "a “bad ass” feminist take on the action film that’s definitely needed to shake up the genre."
writes Frida Gurewitz about ( TIGER GIRL - German Currents Opening Night) for arts•meme. We concur!

GOT YOUR TICKETS YET?!
GERMAN CURRENTS FILM FESTIVAL 2017 is almost here!

The best new German, Austrian, and Swiss Cinema will once again be celebrated at the American Cinematheque, from Friday, October 13th – Monday, Oct 16th, 2017 at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
With German films screened in major film festivals from the Berlinale, Cannes, Venice and Toronto all the way to the Golden Globes and Oscars, 2017 has been a very successful year for German cinema.
The 11th annual German Currents festival features some of the best films of the past year from Germany and German-speaking neighbors Switzerland and Austria.

Most films make their Los Angeles premieres here, and several programs will include discussions with the filmmakers in person.
The series begins with a red-carpet gala presentation of TIGER GIRL - German Currents Opening Night, which earlier this year had its successful debut in the Berlinale Panorama section.
Director Jakob Lass joins us in person for a discussion after the film, followed by an opening-night reception.

Director Ute Wieland, cinematographer Felix Cramer and producer Susanne Freyer join us for the TIGER MILK (Tigermilch) - German Film Premiere, which is paired in a double feature with another coming-of-age story, Fatih Akin’s (HEAD-ON) Bavarian Film Award winner Goodbye Berlin (Tschick)

Acclaimed artists are the main characters in two of this year’s German Currents films. Andres Veiel’s documentary Beuys focuses on one of the most influential German artists of the 20th century, Joseph Beuys.
From Austria, Dieter Berner’s Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden looks at the famed Viennese painter’s life and two of the women in it.
And from Switzerland, we present the country’s official submission to the Academy Awards, The Divine Order, written and directed by Petra Volpe, who will attend this Los Angeles premiere of her film.

Our series concludes with a free matinee screening of THE PEPPERCORNS & THE CURSE OF THE BLACK KING for Los Angeles-area students.

Series compiled by Daniel Chaffey and Gwen Deglise.
Program notes by Daniel Chaffey, Thomas Mikusz and John Hagelston.
