I have this phone as well. But I soft-bricked it, by loading in a Playstore app. It has never been ROM modified before. So I can't get to the screen after the first display screen that is launched as it starts booting.

Without GSM phone turned on, it becomes only a handheld tablet-computer. Not sure why you did not put in SMARTPHONE ... are you an iPhone fanboy, thinking that an iPhone is "smart"?
This means that updating from non-official sources is more risky than the DEB distros.
Rooting looks easy too. 3rd party software will cure camera, etc woes on the original hardware.
My next desktop replacement will probable be Android, not a Ubuntu-based distro, not Wndows. Before the end of this year we will have access to true octa-core Android.
These east Asian companies have few precedents in the "first world". Perhaps General Electric, ... (USA)? The next puzzles to come are: can we east Asians continue to innovate beyond the secondary industries? When these non-individualists discover individualism, will their goup creativity continue?
Personally, I think not. They use drugs (nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, sucrose, fats, etc) to try to cope, ATM. Divorce, delinquency, crime, anti-socialism will increase. Similar to Japan now. I've spent the best part of my life in the post-industrial wilderness, researching the possibilities.
Linux kernel used by Android is very old. Now Google needs to allow the newest hardware to work better, using the forthcoming and existing new kernels: multi-core CPU-GPU, and better optimization for new hardware: SSD. GPS, sensors (many types), etc.
The East-Asian versions of Android that have been or currently available are so closed-source that hopefully, like Apple & Microsoft, they will be security-holed and hostile to outside code inspection/ improvements. So Google should ensure that, like Chrome, that there is always a Chromium-like open-source version that ensures long term trust and support.
