1) Team to beat show of the week alert: dreamy, Brooklyn-based, Krautrock-inspired rock band Diiv is playing at Trees in Dallas tonight (Friday) with Norman, Oklahoma’s Broncho, a band called Winter, and another band called the Paranoyds in the opening slots. Unlike a lot of other so-called dream-pop bands, Diiv has a nervous urgency to…

Benbrook Brewpubs In this week’s Metropolis, I write about Benbrook resident Eric Addison’s travails as he works to open a brewpub in a metroplex that is largely exploding with breweries and brewpubs. His main problem is that he lives in Benbrook, a city whose council has limited the percentage that businesses (including breweries) can make…

WFAA Channel 8 sportscaster Dale Hansen can be a smug and egotistical blowhard at times, but I love it when he gets on his moral high horse and starts ripping into people. I'm not being facetious. I really do love it, whether I agree with him or not. Last night, he gave Baylor University nine…

Some guys just have it. They have a knack for working their bands in all the right ways. I’m not saying that Joey Gorman is some sort of Svengali, just that he’s almost as good at getting a band out there as he is leading one. And he’s a damned good frontman. His first Fort…

Eric Addison loves his adopted hometown. He moved to Benbrook from Los Angeles a year-and-a-half ago with his wife Giancarla to open a brewery. The suburb that borders southwest Fort Worth allows him to live near open fields and pastures while retaining easy access to several nearby cities. For the veteran homebrewer, Benbrook was perfect.…
