After a noisy night from the seals located at the Skerries we got up in the dark for the final day's paddle. There was a lot of smoke in the air from HR burns as I headed out past the Skerries. I headed for Pt Hicks for a lunch break and then onto Bemm River. We were told that Sydenham Inlet was open to the ocean but this would turn out to be incorrect as we were later told it had closed a couple of weeks earlier. I had a 50m or so portage before paddling into the small township of Bemm River. The winds came up from the ENE at around the 20 kt mark which gave me some nice runners for the final leg along the coast. Travel time 7hrs, distance 57km

I had been told that Wingan Inlet was a nice place to stay with lot's of mussels on offer, so it was going to be the next shorter leg. I saw two large Bronze Whalers on this leg, one of them launched a metre in the air doing acrobatics. Lot's of seal's around the Skerries, which is a small Island near the entrance to Wigan Inlet seen in one of the photo's below. Mark met me at the river mouth and we collected some mussels for dinner.I had light winds and a small 1 metre easterly swell. Travel time of 4:20 and distance 34km for this shorter day.

I departed Merrica River for Mallacoota at 8am. I had light to moderate head winds which picked up around Cape Howe where there was some nice surf coming in on the reefs. I had a quick stretch and something to eat at Gabo Island before arriving at Mallacoota 6:45 later. Distance 49km. Mark paddled back to Green Glades and picked up the car to RV at Mallacoota.

A recent 3 day trip along the NSW's and Victorian Wilderness Coastline.  The start point was at Green Glades, located near Green Cape Light House. I  then headed south to Bemm River, Victoria in the following days. This stretch of coast  is beautiful but shouldn't be taken lightly. It has long stretches of exposed cliff lines and surf beaches, the conditions coming from Bass Strait can change quickly! Clarke spent the first night with me at Merrica River before I set off in the morning to continue the trip solo.

Bay of Islands, NZ. We had a great time exploring the Bay of Islands, on the North Island of NZ, late 2014. We had a mix bag weather wise with sunshine, rain and strong winds at  different stages of the trip. The fresh mussels for dinner made it all worthwhile!

Montague Island day trip. I often use Montague Island as a training run. I usually head out from Narooma and around the Island before a down wind paddle south to either Bermagui or Cuttagee Beach, further south. I invited my newly trained guide out for his first blue water paddle on this trip. There is a large fur seal population on the Island who are generally very inquisitive.
