The new Motorola X (or Moto X for short) will be announced on August 1st.

I bought a RAZR flip phone (remember those?) the moment it was available in Canada on Telus and used it extensively for four years until the battery could barely hold a charge for more than an hour.

Still, I loved the build quality and the geekish (is that a word?) design and owning one sure made me stand out amongst the other kids at school, where they were still owning plain colored standalone phones with terrible displays. Since then I switched over to an iPhone and have been on iOS from version 2.0 and beyond.

Android has sure come a long way over the years. I've always wanted one since the very beginning, but the design and feel of the OS looked very dated and the app economy was pale compared to iOS since the App Store debut on iOS 2.0. With the combination of Motorola and Android Jelly Bean, this phone may be just what I want, and with the rumored $199-299 price point off contract and unlocked, this sounds like a steal.

Now, I'm still struggling with the idea of switching over completely to Android from my beloved iPhone (I'm still rocking a 3GS, by the way), so depending on the monthly costs, I might use a Moto X as strictly a data-only phone. I've done some shopping around and some of the 3rd party carriers here in Canada do offer those options at relative prices — 500 MB for $30/month. I do have and use my Google Voice account, so calling and texting people wouldn't be an issue, along with Hangouts for normal messaging. There's Wi-Fi practically everywhere I go, so I don't suspect of going over my data allotment often with the other apps I use on my phone currently like Foursquare, Facebook, Rdio, etc.

There's a lot of hype around this phone, so we can only hope it doesn't disappoint and maybe, just maybe, I might join the Android party after all.

Finally got the new Google+ update. I'm still confused exactly how Hangouts work... So, I'm not supposed to see who's online or offline?

I know I'm a few days late to post this, but the +Google+ app on the iPad is almost buttery smooth. Just a few more kinks to fix and it will be a solid and beautifully well designed app.

Haha yes, this is most definitely true. But then again, I'm not your average user. ;) I have been known to provide Facebook with some feedback over the years since I got into it back in the .edu email accounts only days. :) Guess that's what makes me a somewhat decent beta tester & early adopter for things.

Announcing Blink, a rendering engine for Chromium: blog.chromium.org/2013/04/blink-rendering-engine-for-chromium.html

The mission of Blink is to improve the open web through technical innovation and good citizenship. We've set strong guidelines ( chromium.org/blink#new-features ) for new features that emphasize standards, interoperability, conformance testing and transparency.  Having multiple rendering engine options increases innovation on the web, and will help ensure that the open, compatible web is a platform as capable as any other.

You can learn more at our project page: chromium.org/blink
We've also tried to answer your questions in our developer FAQ: chromium.org/blink/developer-faq

We'll also be hosting a video Q&A session with the Blink engineering leads here on G+ tomorrow. If you have unanswered questions: please ask them in this Google Moderator: http://goo.gl/Uu0qV

Would be nice. But so would a bunch of things for iOS that we likely won't get. :(
