I returned it and got a Chinese afunta tablet. It runs nice on kitkat 4.4 and the tech depo e-mailed me the root version. Thanks a lot though.

Work progresses on getting a pure Linux running on the ZaTab. LXDE is very light on memory usage. Ubuntu Unity looks quite nice.

This is timely. Just the other day I was reading a new blog post from Aaron Seigo about the state of the KDE Vivaldi tablet and thinking "why not ZaTab?" Already interesting enough to run Cyanogen Android, but much more so if accelerated graphics can be made to work for general Linux desktop!

Saw the photos in your Twitter stream and the device looked nice. Can't wait to see the final, finish, running product. Might be enough to finally turn me into a tablet guy ...

The Backlit Tux Keyboard is a joy to use, especially when hacking on code late at night.

I've been using for video- it's quite competent for that.  It's nice a companion for a Nexus 7- I use for the ZaTab with the bigger display and the N7 for more computational function uses.

one USB port is USB server, and it comes with the dongle to use usb-storage devices but I would caution against USB-powered hard drive as it would be a huge battery suck if it worked and it's likely a little mobile device would provide enough current for USB-powered hard drive- even on laptops they often require two USB ports to run (esp. some Dell laptops)
