Yesterday we announced a collaboration with Altera to provide embedded software developers access to best-in-class Vista® virtual platforms that support Altera’s entire SoC FPGA portfolio. These advanced SoC virtual platforms accelerate embedded software development across the entire product life cycle for significant time to market advantage and reduced cost.

The Vista SoC virtual platforms are pre-built, fully functional simulation models of the ARM processor subsystems featured in Altera’s SoC FPGA families. Software developers can use the Stratix 10 SoC virtual platform to start embedded software development and debug for the integrated 64-bit ARMv8-based processor subsystem well before first silicon availability.

Last week we launched two new (and free as always) white papers on heterogeneous multicore design & secure virtualization:

Addressing Design Challenges in Heterogeneous Multicore Embedded Systems

Heterogeneous multicore systems are quickly becoming the defacto architecture as devices are tasked to do more complex functions faster and more efficiently. In this paper,we’ll explore why hetero/multicore systems have become so popular and why many of our current procedures and practices must change if we are to accommodate the complex software configurations that run on them.

Securing Modern-day Devices with Embedded Virtualization and ARM TrustZone Technology

When securing today’s modern devices, as important as the type of device is the process used to develop that device. In this paper, we’ll take a closer look at security as it relates to protecting data, building security into a device, and securing SoCs in multicore architectures. ARM TrustZone technology will also be explored.

This paper will discuss the four key requirements for an EDA system along with the flow implications using examples from the Mentor Graphics Capital suite.

Article Alert: Securing data on connected embedded devices

By Warren Kurisu and Felix Baum, +Mentor Embedded

Securing data on connected embedded devices is a top priority among software developers and architects today. With every passing week another major data breach is announced. Embedded software developers are quickly gaining the tools and technology to design safer, more secure connected devices. Developers can use +ARM TrustZone technology to secure data in their designs in addition to embedded virtualization via a Type 1 Hypervisor to combine secure data, connectivity, and real-time operation through a real-time operating system and open source software to take full advantage of emerging multicore and heterogeneous system-on-chip architectures.
