I have hacked together an original algorithm for converting RAW NEF camera image data into monochrome imagery and would like to hear any opinions you might have about these results.  There's a competition early next year for black & white photography at a local gallery; if you think that any of these might be worth submitting, please let me know!

(All images taken with Nikon D800E and either Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM A or Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G lens, and all in Iceland except the two-faced water fountain.)

This is highly subjective, but I like more local contrast and higher acutance.  Like what you would get out of developing B&W film with a developer called "Rodinal"  (Google it on Google Images).

I've dealt with this company twice because they're the only local contractor for the home warranty that came with our house. Their service technicians and plumbers have all been great folks who are competent, quick, and friendly. The fellow (Colin) who replaced my water heater today is a genius -- I never thought that he'd be able to get the old unit out of the tight spot that it was in, or get the new one into place, but he did. So why only 4 stars for great on-site service? I've scheduled morning appointments that they've either misrecorded or rescheduled without notification into the afternoon. So if you use these folks, do what I didn't: call back and reconfirm scheduling, or you can needlessly lose a whole day from work.

We love our new 4Runner and enjoyed every aspect of our experience at the store. But since buying our car, their 'ecommerce' guy has awoken me twice around five a.m. with spam emails to my phone (with service schedule information that is inconsistent with what the salespeople told us). So there's that.

Avoid! These guys are utterly disorganized. We had their subcontracting plumber arrive two hours late to install fixtures that Allen forgot to deliver, and had a hell of a time getting anybody to respond to our calls. Ended up driving myself back to their showroom and refusing to leave it until they tracked down our stuff in their warehouse, convinced their galoots to load it into a truck and drive it out, and located a plumber to come back out. Nobody seems to be in charge.

I don't know how they stay in business at these prices for prime quality spices from across the globe, but thank goodness they're here.
