This, ladies and gentleman, is the beginning of the new era of computing - centralized processing, remote control.

And it works too. Fast. High resolution. Diablo 3 on my cellphone (and obviously potentially any other device, like my netbook).

Oh also, it's free (mostly).

How to start interesting conversations with interesting people: actovate location on google plus, look at nearby stream, make noise.

My wild, unqualified, and unspecified speculation about the neutrino experiment: neutrinos can go faster than the speed of light because they don't actually have a tiny bit of mass, but a tiny bit of negative mass.

My attempts to refute my speculation come after lunch.

Yes, but there's even an old paper on a modified string theory thing from 1999 by Seiberg and Witten according to which neutrinos could seem to move faster than light. Lubos Motl wrote about it on his blog, so even if the neutrinos actually are superluminal this doesn't necessarily mean that physics is very different from how one would expect it to be. Lubos Motl wrote about this on his blog almost immediately after it became known that there were odd neutrino speed measurements.

I don't think that there are papers according to which the mass of neutrinos is negative or complex-valued mass, as they have several mass eigenstates. What they could possibly say is that they suspect that neutrinos have negative or complex-valued mass eigenstates.

if you started that sentence fragment with "my" it would be a really bad innuendo.

My favorite thing about Google+ - I can add large numbers of people to my circles, and find them, without ever touching my keyboard.

My favourite thing about Google+ :

There is no endless stream of updates from things people like, groups people have joined and applications people have spammed. The only stuff left is stuff that matters; the things my friends are actually saying/sharing.

Sometimes you find the strangest things in the path less traveled.

I lol'd.

Seems like being a regular coffee drinker is a pretty good gig. You are less likely to be overweight, have high blood pressure, or have diabetes. All of these are good things. You're also less likely to be involved in church, which is an absolutely fabulous thing.

The only downside is that you're also more likely to smoke and, if I am interpreting the term 'volunteer or community groups' correctly, less likely to be involved in social service.

Water bears, like well-known cartoon supervillain, Freeza of Dragon Ball Z, can survive in space. Long enough to actually colonize other planets. And I mean, looking at the things, they pretty much look like something out of a sci-fi horror movie anyway, so they probably came from somewhere else to begin with.
