In late 1979, James Sherry decided to end the run of ROOF magazine and begin ROOF books. Controlling Interests was the first title of the press, which continues on, active as ever. Our first problem was funding –– I remember writing letters to everyone I could think of -- relatives and old friends but not fellow poets -- and realizing the fundraising was not my forté. One way or another, we cobbled together the money for the typesetting, which was done be Skeezo (Barbara Barg, Joel Chassler) and for the offset printing. I remember one day James and I going into a print shop in Chelsea to look through the PMS color chart to decide on the color of the type-only cover: a very dark blue (which we changed to turquoise for the second edition). Back cover: totally blank. James has kept the book in print these past 34 years and you can still get the print edition from SPD for $12 (I think the first edition sold for $4 or $5).

Yale's Beinecke Library announced today its acquisition of my papers. Thanks to Nancy Kuhl, Curator, Poetry, Yale Collection of American Literature, and to Steve Clay of Granary Books; as well as to Steve McLaughlin for helping me to catalog and assemble the collection over the past few years.
Poet and scholar Charles Bernstein has long been a force in American letters. The author of dozens of books, in the 1970s Bernstein co-founded the influential journal L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E. He is the co-founder and co-editor, with Al Filreis, of PennSound; with Loss Pequenño Glazier, he is founder of ...

Patrick Durgin's essay on Weiner provides the fullest account of the development of The Clairvoyant Journal and the most detailed study of the bibliographic and textual issues surrounding this work. This is an essential work on Weiner. I am happy to make the essay available on my "Web Log" at Jacket2 and also on Weiner's EPC page. This work was done in conjunction with a new (French) edition of sections of CJ that presents Weiner's work in a way adheres more closely to her typescripts, in particular by maintaining her overall page design by retaining her line breaks, treating the work as "concrete prose" to use Marjorie Perloff's term. Patrick, Marta Werner, and I have been working on these editorial issues for the past months, also anticipating another Weiner publication via Cassandra Gillig and Nathaniel Otting.
Hannah Weiner's Clarivoyant Journal is the last in a series of autobiographical texts. The Fast, Country Girl, Pictures and Early Words, and BIG WORDS precede it. This series begins with her first written account of visionary experiences that would develop over the 1970s, years during which ...

I SURVIVED THE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF POLISH JEWS ...
In Warsaw, we found an extraordinary new museum created as if from ashes. POLIN: The Museum of the History of Polish Jews is a site-specific work, situated on the ground of the Jewish Ghetto and as such serving as a memorial as well as a tribute to those who fought in the uprising."
an essay by Charles Bernstein ~ In November 2014, my wife, Susan Bee, and I visited Lodz and Warsaw, Poland, for the first time, along with our friend, the poet Tracie Morris. Susan’s mother was bo...

We've been working on this page for a decade, but now near complete -- 150 readings and events at Buffalo, from 1963 to 2003. Most of the readings here are connected to two series: "Walking the Dog" programs coordinated and recorded by Robert Creeley until 1990; "Wednesdays@4 Plus" programs ...
