When Japan capital was located at Kyoto, the court aristocrats, tended to pay more attention to artistic and cultural pursuits in the capital and to neglect the actual administration of government affairs. As a result, a new class of farmer-warriors, commonly referred to as samurai, appeared on the scene in Kamakura. By reclaiming or opening up new lands for cultivation in the remoter regions, they succeeded in creating small estates for themselves. To avoid taxation from the central government, their lands were nominally entrusted to some powerful aristocrat family, but in reality they were private holdings protected by the military powers of the individual samurai.
The samurai came to represent a new class of professional warriors, leaving the cultivation of their estates to the peasants.
The Kamakura Period was an era in which bushido (the way of the samurai) was conceived and developed and the Imperial family was kept out of sight in Kyoto while shoguns ruled Japan. Kamakura is a natural fortress, which is why the Shogunate established the government here.
Kamakura today is a reflection of that historic time.

The Nichiren Shoshu Head Temple is known as Taisekiji. It's full, formal name is Tahō Fuji Dainichirenge-zan Taisekiji.

It is located on the lower slopes of Mount Fuji in Kamijo, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The supreme object of worship in Nichiren Shoshu--the Dai-Gohonzon of the High Sanctuary of the Essential Teaching--is enshrined in the Hoando Sanctuary at Taisekiji.

You'll need permission from a Nichiren Shoshu local temple to visit Taisekiji. There are NST temples in New York, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, and San Francisco.

Nichiren Shoshu is the name of the denomination that follows the orthodox teachings of true Buddhism as taught by Nichiren Daishonin, the True Buddha, who made his advent in Japan in 1222.
