The Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is considered to be the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and bio-geographically one of the richest tracts of peninsular India. Covered in lush greenery spread over an area of 345 sqft, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary connects Karnataka and Tamil Nadu through the Bandipur and Madumalai parks. It is quite possible to come across elephant herds, bison, deer, peacocks, monkeys, tigers, leopards, bears, reptiles, butterflies, exotic birds and medicinal herbs.

This 41 km historic Broad Gauge railway line was built by the British to easily transport Teak and other forest produce easily from the forests to the coast for shipping to England.
