Absolute masterpiece of a documentary on PBS - both for art lovers and science lovers. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It is free to view as well!
Art experts investigate whether a portrait sold for about $20,000 in 1998 is actually a lost Leonardo worth millions.

Google's engineering tools blog that I just stumbled over :-)
http://google-engtools.blogspot.com/
Here at Google, we have thousands of engineers working on our code base every day. In fact, as previously noted, 50% of the Google code base changes every month. That's a lot of code and a lot of ...

This was an interesting letter. I always worry when education budget gets cut - this is like killing the future - so that the books may be balanced. This might of interest to +Noah Smith

I know a bit about Portugal, not much about Greece and Slovakia. To summarize, my kids had way better state K-12 education in Palo Alto, CA and Westfield, NJ than their Portuguese cousins had in state schools in comparably affluent places in Portugal. When we moved to Philly, our daughter could not apply to one of the magnet schools there because she wasn't a resident yet, so she attended a private school. Those state magnet schools are better than any state school in Portugal, and indeed better than most private schools in the US. The ordinary Philadelphia city schools are terrible, but so are the Portuguese schools for areas as relatively deprived as non-Center City Philadelphia.

http://www.realdanlyons.com/blog/2012/02/13/hit-men-click-whores-and-paid-apologists-welcome-to-the-silicon-cesspool/

"Silicon Valley once was home to scientists and engineers — people who wanted to build things. Then it became a casino. Now it is being turned into a silicon cesspool, an upside-down world filled with spammers, liars, flippers, privacy invaders, information stealers — and their grubby cadre of paid apologists and pygmy hangers-on." - Epic!
