Corvin Russell originally shared:
Class conflict never ended. The wealthy stepped it up without relent, appropriating ever more of the national wage, then they taxed the poor to pay for their failures and protect their ill-gotten wealth. Now they use their own follies and excesses to justify imposing austerity on others. Racism and state violence have continued unabated.

What has disappeared, it seems, is any effective voice for the poor and working classes at the political level. The liberal political system which during the "golden era" of compromise capitalism functioned to broker compromise between class interests in the interest of reproducing the system has now become so one-sided that it is broken even on its own terms. In the UK, Labour unambiguously and unequivocally speaks for the elites on these issues, and all three major parties speak with one voice. So, the only expressions left to people are things like the #londonriots.
