Given that the Governor’s budget proposes cutting 10 positions from my team, we need to move forward with the assumption that for the foreseeable future we will not have someone at DPI like the career and technical education consultants to support Educators Rising. That said, I am really committed to this work and will do whatever I can to support it because it is one of the few recommendations that have been made that could likely have a positive impact on recruiting new educators in all districts.

I am thinking that we should get a date on the calendar for sometime this summer to get everyone together and plan for next year. If it is not axed from the federal budget, I might be able to get some Title II funds to invite someone like Dan Brown from the national office to come and work with us.

Is it better to look at the last two weeks of June or the first two of August? Or???

I was at a conference last week, and there was a presentation on how New Mexico has been building Educators Rising in their state (see link for the PowerPoint).

Here are my quick notes of ideas for us to consider:

• send some people to other states’ and national conference
• hold two day summer planning conference with Dan Brown (like AZ)
• establish chapters at prep programs (and tech colleges?) to stay connected with students during freshman & sophomore years
• seek outside support rather than Perkins (Kohl Foundation?)
• work with prep programs on unconference sessions or Impacting Student Learning Conference (see Augusta University in GA) on a Saturday
• connect with HS pathway/ACP
