The star shaped fort is surrounded by another jig-saw shaped block which is what the local people call Behu/Bihu Palli.this star shaped fort cannot be identified from the ground;we need a bird's eye-view to see it.there are many stories or myths regarding this structure.some say this fort might have been constructed during the Chahi Taret Khuntakpa(Seven Years of War with Manipuri king and Burmese king during early 19th century). "But, if that is the case, then why is it not mentioned in The Cheitharol Kumbaba(a royal chronicle)in which the most important events or happenings in Manipur had been recorded since 33AD?",some asked. There are some people who even believe that there might have been a kingdom in Maklang in ancient time, even before the kingdom in the Kangla...The fact that the wall of the fort is made of mud, is also another clue that the fort is older than the Kangla fort.so the need of the hour is to conduct an archaeological excavation in the area to know what exactly this structure is.

As I have been living in this area for years I hope Maklang fort is one of the most oldest fort in Manipur. When I was a child I heard many stories related to this area and our local peoples(Maklang,Kachikhul,Karong Ngairangbam) were afraid to cultivate paddy since many years and it still remain as a khash land with small bushes and tall grasses all around it also remain muddy almost all the time. even in this 21st century people are afraid to go near by. Because in our local area we say that this place is a Laifam land(which means a land of god which is not able harm by the human) we go around alone we may face some illness(only during noon or late at night). As we can't recognized about the star shape and about the era, we remain unknown about the fort. But according to the geographical image we saw from the satellite it might be fort( lanban) or tomb of the Manipuris ancient priestess(maichou taret). If we do archeological survey we can get some clues about this area, and we can keep this areas as a historical place of Manipur.
