I hope this little guy's squishy smile brightens your Monday! I'm planning to spend this week mapping out the months ahead, getting back in "yoga shape," finally taking care of those elusive house projects, meeting with clients, and spending some long-overdue time with friends. What's on your plate this week? It's going to be a good one, friends! :)

At your session, we’re not just making photos; we’re making memories. If that means buying your daughter ice cream and getting a little messy in the process, then I say let’s do it! If that involves taking your headshots on a playground, I think that’s fabulous. “Having your portrait taken” does not mean “Kate sticks a camera in your face and tells you to smile.” Portraits are about building a relationship, even in the short span of an hour. I want to earn your smiles, not demand them. I want to get to know you and your family and find out what rocks your world. We’ll talk to each other, snap some pictures, and talk some more. By the time I’m done with a photo session, I head home with a brand new friend.

No matter whether I’m photographing a toddler or an adult, we’re going to have an adventure. We’re going to move so fast that you won’t have time to worry about how you look. All I want you to be is happy, and that happiness will shine out of your face until you’re more beautiful than you ever thought you could be.

Every December 31st, I sit down to compile the year-end video. I never “have the time” because I’m usually in the middle of an editing flurry and trying to figure out my plans for New Year’s Eve. But every year, it’s the single best thing that happens to my business. It makes me stop, pause, and reflect on all of the amazing people that I’ve had the chance to document in the last year. As a small business owner, my life goes about 129 miles a minute, all the time. I wouldn’t have it any other way, either! But the biggest gift is to take a step back from this crazy life and see the beauty of the BIG picture, not just all of the little pictures that comprise it. In the big picture, I don’t see flyaway hairs or closed eyes. I see truly beautiful, shining faces. I see compassion and joy. And that is such an important reminder of why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
