Dear +Google+, please add chat back into the new Google+.  As it's not there now, I'll probably end up closing Google+ and instead keep a hangouts tab open since it's what I care more about anyway.

This is a big deal because it removes many excuses that government groups use for doing things in stupid ways.

Have to state this again after almost getting hit from multiple directions in one intersection this morning.  Why don't people understand this!

California DMV Handbook page 24:
"Traffic signal blackout–The traffic signal light is not working. Proceed cautiously as if the intersection is controlled by 'STOP' signs in all
directions."
Okay, look.  If you have a driver's license you shouldn't need this explained to you.  A traffic signal that is "off" means "STOP" not "drive through at full speed."

Here I made a picture to help with this before you kill someone.

Unfortunately, the stupidly-implemented highway on-ramp meters have trained people that "off" means "green" which is a huge mistake.

There's a crazy wind storm today and there were 4 intersections where the traffic signals were out on my way to work.  The number of people blowing through them without even slowing down is mind-boggling and infuriating.

We bought a new tent to replace my ancient Coleman 3-person tent that no longer has a rainfly and one of the poles is held together by duct tape.

We bought a Kelty Trail Ridge 3 and I did a test set up today.  Everything went great, but I can't figure out what this mesh panel is for.  Anyone have ideas?

If it weren't looped on one end I'd think it's a simple gear loft (there are tie-off locations inside the tent that you could hang this from); but the looped end kind of prevents that.

Kelty apparently doesn't take customer emails (despite listing an email address on their website it bounced back with a "this address is not actively monitored" reply), and I don't feel like calling them.

+Mikey D @ USDS touching on open source software and the government. Shouldn't taxes support software projects that help everyone rather than lining the pockets of contractors that repeatedly fail to deliver usable products?
