Title. SF Botanical Garden Piano Player
Oil on Canvas 18"X24" Signed 2015
Impressionist Oil Painter Donald William, born in Maryland, has spent the last 25 years mostly in San Francisco, pursuing artistic knowledge and insight, soaking in the vast cultural and scenic landscapes and transforming himself over and over, producing paintings that seems to pour right from the heart.
At an early age, Don found drawing was something he could do well enough to inspire comments and laughter from his friends. Like many young boys, naked ladies peaked his interest and found himself honing his newfound special purpose.
Having attended the school of hard knocks from an early age, art has always been a refuge, a sanctuary where Don can isolate himself in a make believe world where Don is god and creates the world the way Don wants to see it. Although music was his prevailing artistic outlet for most of his earlier life, he has now settled into an art form that connects him to his soul without the need for others to complete the transaction; Oil Painting.
Without the pitfalls of a musician’s life, Don is now free to pursue painting with a new-found zest and zeal. He still has plenty of musical aspirations but when it comes to producing art today, you’ll find Don ‘plein-aire’ painting with a smile. There’s almost no subject he won’t paint but when it comes to using his modern palate and his palate knives, nature provides an ample supply of subject matter.
Using a modern palate and palate knives almost exclusively, these oil paintings are extremely textured and thick with paint. When photographed. they have knife ridges that can reflect differently than what it really looks like.

The artwork I create is an appreciation of beauty. It's a fulfillment of a lifetime of inner reflection. It's a study in light and color, contrast and drama. I use a modern palate and palate knife almost exclusively when I oil paint. I attempt to unify my work and use standard techniques of the masters and my own compositional and contextual sensitivity to capture an emotion or fleeting moment in time.
I am an impressionist oil painter. I use impressionistic realism as well as abstract style.
I'm highly intrigued by randomness and dis-order, commonality and social chasm's, absurdity and balance. I take inspiration from spirituality and desire awareness and compassion. The learning process is the most enjoyable part of the whole experience for me.
