I sure did write a lot of words about All That Jazz.
click any image to enlarge ****/***** Image A Sound A Extras A starring Roy Scheider, Jessica Lange, Ann Reinking, Leland Palmer written and directed by Bob Fosse by Bryant Frazer Celebrated as an incisive, self-lacerating backstage spectacle and razzed as an indulgent and pretentious passion project, genius director-choreographer Bob Fosse's All That Jazz is one of the most ambitious American films of the 1970s. At this point in his career, Foss...

In my quest to start reviewing the occasional new release again, in addition to the slow stream of golden oldies, I managed 1300 words on Under the Skin today.
Director Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin is, most of all, a study in imagery. Its science-fiction status is hinted at by visual design, as in the film's opening moments, when concentric circles appear out of the darkness on screen, then are seen to separate, inhabiting three-dimensional space, ...

Mstrmnd caught up to me and my review of Room 237, for which he recorded a commentary track. (I think we're agreeing to disagree.) http://www.filmfreakcentral.net/ffc/2013/12/room-237.html

This two-CD mix that Jonathan Lethem was handing out on the release of his (awesome) The Fortress of Solitude is really, really good.
Jonathan Lethem's "The Fortress of Solitude" may well be the finest rock and roll novel since Roddy Doyle's "The Commitments". The book hinges on the obsession of rock critic Dylan Ebdus with Barre...

So I guess now is as good a time as any to mention that I wrote a review of Rolling Thunder, one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies, on Blu-ray for Film Freak Central. http://www.filmfreakcentral.net/ffc/2013/07/rolling-thunder.html

So Robert Christgau, one of my favorite critics, is finally reviewing records again, which is awesome because now I'll know which albums I should be listening to from Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere. I love his piece on Tinariwen this week, in which he positively body-slams their new album Emmaar in a bare 169 words while simultaneously rewarding it with a B+.

Film Freak Central continues to indulge my arthouse-nerd verbosity, this time publishing my 3500-word take on the late-Bergman chamber piece for mother and daughter, Autumn Sonatahttp://www.filmfreakcentral.net/ffc/2013/10/autumn-sonata.html

If you like your viewing a little more high-toned, I'd suggest the recently reissued Band of Outsiders on a superior Blu-ray Disc from The Criterion Collection.
