I really love the Project Loon idea and will be watching to see how it goes.

Last October, people were reporting this strange object in the sky from Kentucky to New York over a several day period. According to Wired http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/08/googlex-project-loon/ Google recently claimed responsibility and said that it was one of their Project Loon tests. This photo was taken through a telescope in Kentucky.

I'm posting this here because it would be helpful to have a shot of this prototype close up, to see how it compares to what people witnessed from the ground.

Are any close ups of this prototype available?

PhD comics has put up a great video explaining the various methods of exoplanet detection. Really, it's amazingly clear (especially the animations; the audio could've been better), check it out!

A couple of short videos explaining the permafrost problem are included in this article.  Worth watching.

New UFO Hotspots Map
Our system automatically tries to connect UFO sightings that are reported in the same area around the same time. When a UFO report has been paired to three or more other sightings, we call it a "UFO cluster" or "hotspot". This map shows a map of UFO hotspots for a certain time range.

These hotspots are important to consider because they identify sightings that have multiple witnesses in different locations.

Good article that points out the dangers of providing privileged access for journalists. This is true in any area of knowledge that the ones in power want to control perception - and they have been doing a helluva job at it for a long time.

...but what's more dazzling—and frustrating—is the government's skill, time and time again, in getting its story told so uncritically.

...the U.S. Military Command finally asked to see the real material to verify that it worked,” he said. “Those meetings took place with very limited ‘Need to Know’ access and the technology is now moving forward.”

This is awesome...  Camera picked up by a seagull and flown over the water, then dropped on a sidewalk.
