Closing permanently due to death of the owner. Family is having a fund raiser today for the employees who will be losing their jobs. Can't we figure out a way to keep this place open? Visit their Facebook page and encourage them to keep it open if you agree.

CASH ONLY BUSINESS. I ordered 4 breakfast tacos over phone with cheese on all of them, came out to $5.40. Tacos were VERY GOOD. I don't think the tortillas are home made but if they aren't they taste like it! Tacos are a little smaller than I am used to but not too small and definitely worth the price.

I love eating at this taco joint. The best tacos and mucho cheap but very tasty. I like the Rice, bean and cheese and the ladies there as so nice. The best foods in Austin are holes in the wall and this place is in my top ten places to eat breakfast and lunch.

I called in to place a “ to go” order today around 10:30 am, it was a simple order 2 tacos and water. The person who took my order over the phone didn’t sound enthusiastic about having to answer the phone nor was she polite but she took my order and said it will be ready in 10 min. I arrive around 12 min later to the restaurant. I’m the first person in line and a young lady is at the cash register. She doesn’t say hello, nor does she acknowledge that I’m in line to order. She then walks from behind the cash register to the dining area to move some paper towels to another location, during this time the line increases, there are now 6 people behind me waiting to order and now I’ve been waiting for 5 min. This lady who is supposed to be behind the register taking orders is still wandering in the small dining area for no reason (she clearly is avoiding the growing line of customers). Then the phone rings, by this time there is at least 10 customers and a few are out the door because the line is steadily growing, the lady goes at her own pace to answer the phone, I hear her take another “ to go “ order…after her phone call she then comes to the register and “ how can I help you” I then tell her that I’m picking up an order for Joe, so she goes and gets the ticket starts to ring me up, but I notice there is not food ready to go…so I ask her “ is my food ready” she says no, she doesn’t apologize so I tell her I don’t want the food. My bad review has nothing to do with the food (because I didn’t get to taste it) nor about the environment, its about the service and the lack of attention to a normal customer. I should have had a typical experience at this place but instead they left a bad taste in my mouth ( no pun intended) all because of one employee…

Came here for breakfast on Friday and had the migas plate and a few breakfast tacos (sausage egg and cheese, chorizo egg and cheese, and bean and cheese). In terms of price --wow yes everything is amazingly cheap! 95 cent tacos? YES. But in terms of flavor, no. The tortillas were obviously store bought, not fresh, and not even warmed appropriately. The migas was liquid-y from all of the tomatoes they put in there and was pretty tasteless. Chorizo had good flavor, but all in all the tacos were not that tasty.

So good, SO cheap. I love me some Tamale House. It's some solid mexican cooking. It's in a great location to spot in and get food quick or you can hang out at a table inside or outside. The breakfast tacos are really good.

Stellar. The price reflects what it is: amazing food, no air conditioning, cash-only. Legitimately the best Mexican food in Austin.

Oh. my. god. This place is delicious. You should definitely go. It's super cheap, too. They've got a sign that says "Tamale House - The only reason to get up before 3!" And it's right.
