Here's what will happen to Earth when our galaxy collides with the Andromeda Galaxy
by Jessica Orwig - Business Insider
#astronomy

Mark your calendars and reserve your seats ...

Take a good, hard look at the Milky Way Galaxy in the image above — eventually, this view will be destroyed by a collision of galactic proportions. Earth will survive, but when this galactic war happens, Earth's night sky will look like nothing any human has seen before.

An epic war is coming: A gruesome battle between two, gigantic galaxies will be well underway in just a few billion years, and one of the contenders is our home, the Milky Way.

Right now, the Andromeda Galaxy is racing toward the Milky Way at a speed of 250,000 mph — fast enough to circle the Earth in just six minutes. And it is scheduled to collide with the Milky Way in approximately 3.75 billion years.

Any of you remember this from Hernan Cattaneo's 2004 Miami WMC set? Was an instant classic for me :)

It’s freezing outside and you forgot to set your Nest Thermostat this morning — now you’re doomed to a house resembling the North Pole... No more! Fix that with a simple voice command: in the Google app on your Android or iPhone, just say “OK Google, set Nest to 73 degrees” and your house will be cozy and warm when you arrive. (Unless your significant other counters with a command to set the temp to their perfect 67 degrees!)

But if that’s too much work, you can get the perfect temperature at home with no hassle at all: your Google app can let your Nest know you’re on your way home and it’ll pre-heat or cool to your preferred temperature — and you’ll get a notification in return. Just go to workswithnest.google.com to set it up!
