Last weekend i was guest speaker at the Georgia's Educational Technology Conference, where i made demo of Google Glass and Moto 360, speeches on educational apps and programs of Google, and about empowering girls at schools to take on STEM carriers. I was very thrilled and honored to be represented at this nation wide event, speaking to hundreds of outstanding teachers all around the country.  There are so many things i want to share, but her is top 3:
1.  I am convinced more than ever, that when we talk about promoting STEM careers, especially for girls we should work with teachers who have huge influence on youth starting from early ages. Their attitude, perceptions or behavior often shape students mind and determine their choices;
2. While showing advanced wearable technologies, teachers including ones from very rural areas of Georgia were impressed on how this field has evolved. In addition to tens of profile pictures teachers have updated on social networks taken while wearing Glass or Moto 360, they have realized the importance of bringing new technologies in their teaching methodology and learning process.
3. Several months ago in August, while being invited speaker at young girls summer camp, i have met one visually impaired girl. She shortly mentioned how much she would love to have her own blog and Facebook profile where she could express her thoughts. Not knowing much about screen readers or accessibility functions of facebook or blogs i somehow promised her that i would teach her everything. Than we met, and i realized how much challenges she faces even with technologies that are adaptive. We started to learn together how to LISTEN to websites, find buttons that i could see clearly on screen by hearing screen reader and going tab by tab... I remember her cheerful voice when i told her she had successfully made first post on blog, and we tried to choose a design she would have loved to see...  Her name is Esma Gumberidze, one of the bravest and most determined person i have ever met. Her example of using digital tools for interaction, work or studies proves how technologies can help and make social impact. I have asked her to give a lighting talk at the teachers' conference and she immediately accepted the proposal. Her speech was touching, she talked about the hardships people with visual disabilities face and showed different hardware or software programs she uses to fight this imbalance.
Now pictures of us, are on her Facebook page, i explained her how we look...

Despite the fact, that i'm very much into modern technologies and innovations, i still value analogue cameras the most. It's not about the quality of the picture or the cool features it can have, but its all about the process, the experience and the feeling. Taking pictures with the film camera seems like gambling to me, you never know if you have made good shot or not,  and your chances are limited. And only after some time passes, her comes the exciting moment to finally see it, having naturally vintage colors, even scratches, without any touch up needed. Sometimes you even forget the shots you have made and this pleasant surprise makes your day ! :)
