Went with entire family. We had crab, lobster and fish and chips. It was a good experience overall. We got a table by the window and had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Service was good and staff was courteous.

Terrible!!! Very Slow waiters and service was fair (to be kind) poor quality food at high prices. Decor was old and outdated. Perhaps this place was in its prime 90 yrs ago but it certainly hasn't kept up with the changing times and needs of the customers. Views ok but not worth getting caught in this tourist trap. My first clue should have been the waiters outside trying to lure customers into the restaurant (so tasteless). The better restaurants in the area are packed especially on the weekends and require reservations. I wish I had read the reviews before I ate here-hope others will read this and not make the same mistake. It's a shame the owners spend their time trying to shut down negative reviews online instead of using their energy to make much needed improvements to this old, run down and poor eatery.

To clarify, the reason that we respond to all of our reviews online is so that our customers feel heard. Whether the experience is good or left room for improvement, we consider everything that a customer says and use it to help us improve and grow in the future. We hope that our customers feel heard, but responding online certainly doesn't take any energy for what we do to implement that feedback in our restaurant. We're constantly working to grow and better ourselves, and we're sorry to hear that this didn't come across in your visit with us. I can assure you that quality service and ambiance is a major priority of ours, and we continue to work towards showing our community that we're capable of delivering that consistently. That said, I do hope you'll consider giving us another chance -- we know that we're capable of much more. -Annette A., Owner

I first ate here with my parents and sister in the 1950s. Keep coming back whenever I'm in town. My wife and I sought it out tonight specifically to try their Crab Louie Salad again. We were NOT disappointed. It was great; with very fresh lettuce and a generous 3oz helping of crab. Our server Solomon was great, along with the window seat and nice attention from the Maitre 'D. Thanks for living up to the memories, Alioto's. We'll be back!

Bill, this is the kind of review that always touches my heart. It's such a unique honor to be able to welcome families like yours for decades, to be the kind of restaurant you dream of returning to and sharing with others. Thank you for that pleasure -- we can share the memories! Best wishes, Annette A., Owner

Our server was suburb! Really nice restaurant. I love the dining room and the stairwells with the old family photos. We ordered the lunch combos. Their clam chowder is tasty. Their fish & chips was delicious! I wish there were refills on soda though, the glasses they came in were very small.

An excellent server can make a good meal truly great, Emily, so it's wonderful to hear your server made the difference. Thank you for the five stars and kind words! Cheers, Annette A., Owner

Ok, so this is definitely not your neo-hipster kind of place. It caters to tourists, sure... but the food is really good and the staff was friendly and accommodating. It's an old school joint, but totally genuine. The oysters were phenomenal - as good as (if not better) than what I typically get at our local Santa Monica haunt, "The Lobster" (a higher end restaurant). If you're on the fence, go here. It's a great experience. Just check your pretense at the door.

My wife and I wanted clam chowder while we were in SF. Of course, there's a ton of places to go for chowder in SF, but we like Alioto's. Comfortable seating in a classy environment, but not too stuffy. The main restaurant floor has a nice view of the harbor and Golden Gate Bridge. The food is good, if a little pricey. You can get the same food downstairs on the street, at Alioto's streetside diner, but you miss out on the views and excellent service upstairs, but that just means there's something for everyone here.

Website advertised open until 11pm. Called to reserve and they said they close at 10pm. Called 5 min later to see what time they close and at 9:26pm claimed to have already closed, yet still answered the phone? In case an employer is reading this, it is Jan 23 2017. Please do something to be more accountable with your customers

I wasn't really impressed with the food even though the location was great. Crab on packaged iceberg lettuce for a salad that was $24 wasn't worth it. Clam chowder was mediocre and I received a negative comment from the waiter when I asked to have the soup separate from the bread bowl.
Response from the owner - a month ago
It's a shame to hear you didn't have a perfect experience with us, Donna. I know we can impress you, and I hope you'll give us another chance to show you why so many people love coming by for a meal. Until then, take care. -Annette A., Owner
