A Cat Pawsitive Adoption Story, from Washington Humane Society/ Washington Animal Rescue League!

Sacha adopted JGF Cat Pawsitive student "Colonel Mustard" (now known as "Harry") on May 22nd and said, “...Harry, is doing really well in our home. We are trying to do clicker training with him and he’s responding nicely. He love treats! He’s learning to sit, come and lie down as well. I’m attaching a photo of Harry chilling on the sofa while I work. He loves our dog Polly (and she loves him) and is getting acquainted nicely with our cat Lucy as well.”

Special needs kitty Burnt Umber is ready for a forever home!
Burnt Umber at Animal Friends in Pittsburgh, PA.

This handsome tabby was transferred from another shelter for our annual New Year’s Eve Rescue. Burnt Umber is one of the sweetest, most loving cats you will ever meet! He is an absolute purr machine and rubs up on everyone he meets.

The only thing holding this sweet boy back from a home is that he was diagnosed with diabetes. We have been managing his diabetes really well with twice-daily insulin shots. Burnt Umber needs a family that is comfortable with giving him his shots, as it is essential for his well-being.

Burnt Umber loves to play but especially loves to be with people. He is vocal and will tell you how much he loves you! He is a stately and handsome cat, with a loving personality. He is a staff and volunteer favorite and really deserves a loving home of his own.

Because of his special needs, Burnt Umber is in our special Adoption Program, Mission: Adoptable. This program’s goal is to find fitting forever homes for animals that either have medical or behavior setbacks or have been at Animal Friends for too long. These animals are often overlooked, so through Mission: Adoptable they receive special promotion. Their adopters receive individualized packages, designed for the specific animal, to help ease the transition into home life.

Burnt Umber’s adopters will receive one package of canned pate food, a one-on-one with an Animal Friends Medical Wellness employee, one supply of Prozinc insulin and a urinalysis and blood draw after adoption (just the draw, not an analysis), in addition to the regular benefits offered through Mission: Adoptable:
- Individualized matchmaking and counseling by a trained Adoption Counselor.
- Waived adoption donation, one dose of heartworm preventative for the month following adoption.
- PetPlan Insurance policy for 30 days.
- Access to Animal Friends’ Behavior Hotline.
- A lifetime of complimentary nail trims.
- 20% off any purchase in the Animal Friends Retail Store on the day of adoption.
- 10% lifetime discount for all purchases in the Animal Friends Retail Store.
- Continuing support from Animal Friends Adoption Department to address any questions or concerns.

Funny and adorable, adoptable Charmin at Delaware Humane Association in Wilmington, DE!

Charmin came to DHA as a kitten, with a few of her siblings. When she wasn't gaining weight like the others and her temperature fell too low, she was rushed to the nearest emergency hospital.

After a few days of monitoring and various tests, she was diagnosed with Addison's disease - which is incredibly rare in cats, let alone a kitten. Her body does not understand how to process stressful situations, so she requires a small dose of medication daily to keep her in check. As long as she has yearly blood work done along with a check-up and can be monitored for symptoms of an Addisonian crisis, she can and has been living a perfectly normal life!

Once her medication was stabilized, she was placed into foster care in September 2015 where she could receive proper exercise and be monitored by a consistent caretaker. She adjusted in no time at all, has fallen madly in love with her doggie "siblings," become cuddle buddies with her feline "sister," and entertains visiting children. She adores everyone, loves to play, will tolerate nail trimming/brushing/tooth brushing, knows to sit before her food bowl gets put down, and is likely to steal little morsels of chicken or a lick of your whipped cream if you let her!

If you're someone who might be willing to learn about her condition and potentially meet her, please contact DHA or her foster mom directly at sgomez@dehumane.org
