This is excellent news. The 787 was safe from the beginning. The battery issues were nothing but 'teething' problems that would have been addressed by Boeing. The 787 had been under media attention for a few reasons, first the fact of its extensive use of new technologies to reduce fuel burn rate and emissions and provide a new level of pax comfort and for those familiar with the aerospace industry, Boeing's decision to spread financial and engineering risk to major subcontractors. Because of the intense media coverage regarding the battery events this battery fix will be more than adequate providing many layers of protection. The 787 had been in revenue service for nearly one year and performance exceeded design targets. The aircraft is nothing short of magnificent and its return is welcome and great news for all including the US aerospace industry which faces formidable competition from Europe's EADS (Airbus), Bombardier (Canada) and Embraer (Brazil) and soon China, India, Turkey and Indonesia.
