I love it when people quit their jobs and do something they really like! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. It's really hard to jump out of the safe and secure day job!
As a continuation of where the Super Green Dot blog left off, I speak with
+Chris Gammell on element14  about quitting his day job and moving forward with Contextual Electronics full time. Congrats Chris! http://www.element14.com/community/people/sophikravitz/blog/2014/03/24/chris-gammell-the-element14-interview

Introduction
Engineer & Maker. I am pretty much always making stuff and I love meeting new people.

You may have met me somewhere- I have visited every state in the USA except Alaska. I also visited dumpsters in each of these states and have had numerous conversations with people about feeding their goats, pigs and families out of them.
I set up 3 soup kitchens out of my car in Illinois, Maine and California. Best memory is 60 people eating fancy bottled unopened dumpster pickles in Bar Harbor on the beach while Bad Brains played in the background.
I once realized that the average supermarket throws away 30 gallons of milk per week the day before the due date.

I have driven 18 different cars - perhaps you sold me one of them?

I used to lifecast celebrities' body parts for movies and TV. Sometimes I made blood too. If you saw a severed hand floating in a puddle on Law and Order in the late 90s I might have made it. If you saw something in a movie with a skin disease, blood pouring out of a neck, or an amputation...I might have made that too. Did you visit Kelly Gleason's booth at ComicCon in NJ? The one with 300 severed heads on it. And me behind it. Maybe we met then?

As an EE, I designed a bunch of different controllers for industrial machines.
Some of them wash glassware. Some of them control gas canister temperatures. Some of them control motors. I got to work on a battery charger that was going to be in an electric car, but the project got cancelled.

I write firmware sometimes for fun and sometimes for $.

I've recently fallen in love with RF engineering.

I make technology-art projects whenever possible. I've had projects at Burning Man 2010 and 2011, and Bay Area Maker Faire 2011 and 2012, and World Maker Faire NYC 2012.

I like visiting other countries.
