Don graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1967. He graduated from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California in 1969. He then attended Wisconsin State University River Falls, transferring to The University of Minnesota, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in December of 1971. He had a dual major of Business Administration and Agricultural Economics. Turning 18 at the height of the Viet Nam war, the only thing Don ever won in his life was the draft lottery. Prior to being drafted and upon graduation from college, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps in Arlington Virginia working for the Inspector General of the Marine Corps, responsible for auditing non-approriated funds in excess of $33,000,000. This included auditing several Officer's clubs, enlisted men's clubs, and special services at various Marine Corps bases and detachments throughout New England. Upon returning to his home in Red Wing, Minnesota, Don became a real estate investor, agent, and real estate broker. During the past 37 years Don has successfully closed over 2,000 real estate transactions, representing the buyers, sellers, or himself. During his career, he has personally owned and rehabbed over 50 properties as well.
