The opportunities that come along with a career in data science are endless.

“I had a chance to work for world-class Parisian startup Snips, travel to Nairobi and cofound Alexandria, co-op house in Palo Alto. In the One Salon, an international intellectual gathering that has grown to 11 cities around the world, I had a chance to practice my learnings on emergence and create some of my own.”

The White house is planning to put its data science resources to good use.

“The President of the United States has always had tools at his disposal when it comes to helping out American citizens—things like executive orders, veto power, and possibly the world’s largest soapbox. You can add data to that list, because in February President Obama added the position of deputy CTO for data policy chief data scientist to his cabinet, in order to help the White House better understand how it can protect citizens’ data, but also how that data can help save their lives.”

The food we consume is a treasure trove of data ripe for analysis. Silicon Republic spoke to two experts delving deep into these datasets in different ways.

“What isn’t so obvious to most is that there is a vast amount of data present in everyday foods and, if you find the right way to interpret this data, it can provide incredible and, quite frankly, miraculous insights,” Eileen Gibney, lecturer in nutrition and genetics.
