I'm disappointed to read that most of the most compelling details of the recent This American Life show about Apple/Foxconn was fabricated by Mike Daisey. The retraction show they released today, is worth listening to - at the end they make the point that the reason the working conditions are so poor in China (and they really are), is because companies like Apple demand razor-thin profit margins from their suppliers. And we've exported the poor working conditions that we've made illegal in the West. What I thought might come out of the initial podcast and I think still could happen at some point is a movement towards Fair Trade Electronics:

Will global media attention on stressful working conditions at electronics manufacturers result in “fair trade” computers and gadgets?
