English is Tough

Once you've learned to correctly pronounce every word in the following poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world. If you find it tough going, do not despair, you are not alone. Multinational personnel at North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters near Paris found English to be an easy language until they tried to pronounce it.

To help them discard an array of accents, the verses below were devised. After trying them, a Frenchman said he'd prefer six months at hard labor to reading six lines aloud. Try them yourself.

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy, Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.

Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.

Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.

Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.

Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.

Pronunciation -- think of Psyche!
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.

Finally, which rhymes with enough --
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

+Mz Maau I got me something fitted... ;)
+little jamila We gals need to stand up and be our own chicken!! ;)

I like pants they don't make anymore...
I have what we call in Mexico a "Chicken Waist"...
I really hate these low cut britches they make for us gals anymore, ack!!
I don't care if I look like a tamal, I hate my ass cheeks catching too much wind, brrrr...!!!

I, I, I, I...

Which reminds me...

A while back I took my best gal pal to check out some bikes at Peaks here in town... It was hilarious watching the big bad frilly marine fretting over whether the cute guy at the bike shop could see her "delicateness" while she tried the merchandise... All red faced, pulling first at her shirt, then her pants, then at the handle bars to right herself... And the guy wasn't even looking... I was almost on the floor peeing myself... It was so sad...

I am an awful friend...!!! I was glad she was laughing too... :D

The ultimate dream of flight — soaring through the air, with total freedom in all three dimensions, not within a heavy and complicated machine but with only one’s body and sensations — a dream everybody had at least once in their life. His wings: an eight-foot-wide, carbon-fiber wing of his own invention. His propulsion system: kerosene-fueled jet turbines. His air speed: almost 200 miles-per-hour. Who is ready to try it out?

Here The Flames Burn...

Cry, how I cry...
Here the flames burn...

The precious in a blink is erased...
Here on earth, we all suffer pain from injustice...
But the powerful, the few gods, Care for nothing...

They take our land...
They take out bread...
They take our dignity...
They leave us nude...

But precisely for that, the scars they leave
on our bodies, the whole World can see...

Open your eyes Brother, Companion, Friend, Lover, Dreamer...
Look at my scars, my footprints, my welts...
Love me, and if it isn't born in you, At least
hold your hand out for me... But don't cover me…

Applaud me my efforts, my scars...
So others can see the tears,
Running down my cheeks...
Through the earth...

So the Gods Can Hear...
Our Hearts Arrive...

I like this poem better in Spanish...

Ámame, y si no te nace,
Por lo menos tiéndeme la mano...
Pero no me cubras…

Aplaude conmigo mis esfuerzos, mis huellas…
Para que otros vean las lagrimas,
Corriéndome por las mejillas…
Y por la tierra…

Para Que los Dioses Oigan...
Nuestros Corazones Arribar…

I’ll Take This Seed...

Current mood:hopeful

I hear her steps, they are only echoes
I see her face, but they are just shadows…
She says my name, I feel her whisper
This seed needs ground, I'll plant it elsewhere…

She's sweet and rough, She moves me so
Never claims my heart, then just lets me choose…
She says my name, I feel her burn
This seed needs ground, I'll plant it elsewhere…

because she's burned, she's been had enough...
from tasting death, she wants to live...
she says my name, she wants my heart
This seed needs ground, I'll plant it elsewhere…

I say her name, she doesn't turn
I plead her heart, she mourns and looks
I wish her well, she smiles and cries…

I'll take this seed and plant it elsewhere....

Best Friends Forever - Apocalyptic Feature Film Kickstarter
"Best Friends Forever is a dark comedy and sci-fi horror film, combining equal parts buddy film, road trip, and nuclear apocalypse story, but with girls.

The movie is made by +Brea Grant, who currently needs support for post-production. The Kickstarter has so far been supported/promoted by +Nerdist, +Casey McKinnon, +Philip Plait, and many more, but support is still needed to reach the goal. For this reason I urge you to look at Best Friends Forever's Kickstarter page where you can find out more about the movie and support it:

Instead of showing the video from the Kickstarter page, here's a fun little video with +Brea Grant and a few of the others having a bit of fun:
