"The ancient greeks recited Homer's epic by memory and reading was once condemned for degrading oral memory (which it did)."
If you take the time to read the original article you may find that the research is in its' infancy and that the original group of subjects were not diverse or representative of general society.
What +Lisa Nielsen's article did provoke (for me) was the reflection that I have become more and more attuned to reading short pieces of writing. I actually find myself more interested in reading short pieces, like in #googleplus and prefer to flow from post to post, following links that lead to Blogs (and occasionally articles). I guess I have to think about this a little more, what are your thoughts?
When working with teachers the example I give is to record an explicit teaching moment that the student is challenged by, say 3 + 3 =. The student hears the teacher's voice and their own voice and can see anything that is drawn on the screen. Then they can replay it back to themselves as often as they like.
This is not the only application of Explain Everything, but a powerful example. There is so much more you can do with it.
Not really that big a call.
" PARENTS who buy into their children's online disputes can continue the tirade long after their children have made up."
This was the case well before computers were around, impact before cars, bronze etc.
