2016 Honda Civic a Hampton Roads Favorite and Award Winner

#HamptonRoads has already shown great love for the #2016HondaCivic, but we hope you'll be celebrating with us as we announce a significant milestone for the popular small car. The #2016Civic just earned the North American Car of the Year award, given at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in #Detroit.

This is the second time in the history of the award that the Civic has taken home the title (the previous occasion was the 2006 #Civic, which shared the stage with Honda's North American Truck of the Year award-winner, the 2006 Ridgeline). In the 22 years the awards have existed, Honda has had 11 vehicles listed as finalists—that's more than any brand outside of the traditional “Detroit Big 3.”

In response to the exciting news, Jeff Conrad described what makes the Civic such a success, saying, "[it] is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup, and we're delighted that the automotive press has recognized the new levels of styling, performance, advanced technology, safety and value that characterize the new Civic."

“The all-new Civic was developed and is built in North America, making this North American Car of the Year win even sweeter,” Conrad continued.

While we are proud of every award that our Honda vehicles earn here at Hampton Roads Honda Dealers, there's something particularly special about the North American Car of the Year award. Unlike the majority of auto awards, this one is bestowed by a panel of 53 auto journalists and critics. That means that a winner will escape biases by a publication and represent the actual will of the majority of auto critics all over the world.

The critics didn't just vote on the Civic because they liked it—though there is quite a bit to like in the first year of the 10th generation Civic—they ranked vehicles based on innovation, safety performance, value, design, handling, and overall driver satisfaction. While the Civic has always been popular, the new model is sportier, features two different engines, and lets drivers choose among five different trim levels. And we haven't even seen the hatchback, coupe, or Si models yet.

For more on the Civic, we suggest you simply get behind the wheel and see why so many critics have fallen for it. Visit a Hampton Roads Honda Dealer near you today.
