Watch as GDG Philippines and Kevin Nilson share about Chrome Cast and how to develop on it.

Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Set it up with a simple mobile app, then send your favorite online shows, movies, music and more to your TV using your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Google Cast is a technology that enables multi-screen experiences and lets a user send and control content like video from a small computing device like a phone, tablet, or laptop to a large display device like a television.

This was my essay thingy for the GSA offboarding:

I think I’ve been through everything (of course I haven’t, it’s just the feeling…) someone who does what we do could possibly go through. Hosting successful big events where everyone just sinks into a group hug after, with everyone smiling and some teary-eyed; talking to people about our job, describing how fun and amazing and wonderful it is; hosting a small event and wishing there were more people to experience the chill brought by the speaker’s words; watching the reactions participants have whenever the person in front would say something striking; handling the stress from juggling school and work and community and relationship duties, sacrificing one for the other; the list can go on and on and on…

I remember the day I received the email confirming I was in. It was titled “Did you make it as a Google Student Ambassador?”, I was like oh my god just freaking tell me already it why must there be more suspense!!! It took my browser a good ten seconds to load the message and once I saw big red text reading “Congratulations!” I started shaking and I swear to all that is holy, there was not enough air in my room. I was screaming internally as I reread the entire message, scared that I might have misunderstood or they might have sent it to me by mistake. But I didn’t misunderstand, and the first line read “Dear Joshua Timothy Guevara”. I was in. I started screaming (externally, this time) and jumping and bragging on Twitter (vaguely, of course).

Being a GSA has opened up so many new doors and windows and chimneys for me, more than I know what to do with. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities and opportunities. I remember being so overwhelmed, I couldn’t stop smiling for two whole days. After the summit, I was just all about Google, and blabbering to my friends about the experience. I’m pretty sure their brains were going “if you could just shut up”.

It connected me to the awesomest set of people I have ever known in my entire (Hi, PH GSAs 2013-2014, I love you all, I cried when we got separated, to +Miggy Azurin  +Jasmine Tolentino  +Val Amiel Vestil  +Myreen Repizo  +Judd Tecson  etc). It connected me to my new mommies (Hi Mommy +Aileen Apolo  Mommy +Chelle Gray  +NeeKhern C. ), who are the absolute warmest people in the world. It connected me to people who were experts in my field, and it was a delight learning from them (Hi GDGPH, Ate +Celine Marie Barrozo  Kuya +Wayne Manuel  Kuya +Jomar Tigcal  Sir Briane, Kuya Alvin, and all the speakers who spoke at my tech events). It connected me to my kids, who I had fun working with (Hi, GRIP, Ian, Lester, Kyle, etc). It connected me to Kimy, this crazy kid I adore (make us proud, kiddo). It connected me to my partner, +Chiara David  who is the best partner anyone can ask for. TL:DR, it connected me to the best people evar (coz ever isn’t enough).

What I love most about my work is the knowledge that it enhanced other people’s lives. I had tons of fun, and I know that it meant something. In true Google fashion, I believe the cool things I did mattered.

It’s been an amazing ride, I wish it didn’t have to end. I don’t think I can stop now, though. Trust that I will continue spreading the Google love.

Good luck new GSAs! Do cool things that matter!
