Upcoming Monastery Festival in Ladakh:-

KARSHA GUSTOR: - 16TH TO 17TH JULY 2012

Karsha Gustor is the largest and most famous festival in Zanskar Valley. The festival celebrated every year on the 28th and 29th day of the 6th Tibetan month. Karsha Monastery was the first established by Phagspa Sherab and present monastery was built by Dorje Sherab. Karsha Monastery is the largest monastery in Zanskar Valley and its name takes from two villages there – Phyikar (Outer white) and Nangkar (Inner white).

Upcoming Monastery Festival in Ladakh:-

LAMAYURU KABGYAT: - 16TH TO 17TH JUNE 2012

Lamayuru Kabgyat also known as Yuru Kabgyat is a two day long festival which held at Lamayuru Monastery, located 125 km form Leh. People comes from various countries like Japan, Korea, Tibet and China to attend this festival. It is celebrated with tremendous pomp and enthusiasm. The main figures portrayed are the Yama or the Lord of Death and Padmasambhava or the second Buddha who is also known to be the God of Wealth.

Hemis Monastery Festival (29 - 30 June 2012)
Hemis Monastery Festival is the most famous festival in Ladakh. Every year lots of people come to celebrate this festival outside of India. Hemis Monastery is located 45 kms from Leh. The monastery belongs to Drugpa order built on a green hillside bounded by fabulous mountain scenery. It is the biggest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. The monastery was founded by the 1st incarnation of Stagsang Raspa Nawang Gyatso in 1630 AD, who was invited to Ladakh by the king Singay Namgyal and was offered a religious estate throughout the region.
